Why it lands
Forty-one accounts run Datadog; only twelve show switch signals. Targeting all forty-one wastes the play on accounts that are happy. Targeting the twelve with declining incumbent intensity and rising alternative intent is where displacement actually works.

Overview

Map displacement opportunity by finding accounts that run a named competitor and show switch signals (rising category intent, complaints in their review profile, declining incumbent footprint) — so PMM and sales target a displacement play at accounts actually ready to move.

Use cases

  • Target the movers, not the installed base

Everyone running a competitor isn't a displacement target. The accounts whose incumbent footprint is shrinking while alternative intent rises are — and that's a small, high-yield subset.

  • Arm sales with the switch trigger

Each hot target comes with the specific signal driving the switch — so the rep opens on the actual reason the account is shopping, not a generic 'thinking of switching?'

# Competitive Displacement Map

## Parameters

- `{{competitor}}` *(required)* — The competitor to displace. Example: `Datadog`
- `{{category}}` *(required)* — The category for intent signals. Example: `observability`
- `{{target_segment}}` *(required)* — The segment to scope the map. Example: `US mid-market software, 200-2000 employees`

## Purpose
Find {{target_segment}} accounts running {{competitor}} that show switch signals — rising {{category}} intent, declining incumbent intensity — and map them as displacement targets, so the play hits accounts ready to move, not every account that runs the competitor.

## Process
1. **Find the installed base** — `company_technographic` to find {{target_segment}} accounts with {{competitor}} installed.
2. **Switch signals** — `intent_category` + `company_intent` for rising {{category}} intent (researching alternatives) and `company_install_time_series` for declining incumbent footprint.
3. **Score readiness** — combine incumbent decline + rising alternative intent into a displacement-readiness score.
4. **Tier** — Hot (both signals strong), Warm (one signal), Watch (installed but stable).
5. **Play note** — for Hot accounts, the specific switch trigger to message against.

## Output Format
Markdown with:
- `# Competitive Displacement Map — {{competitor}}`
- `## Hot Targets` (incumbent declining + alternative intent rising)
- `## Warm Targets` (one signal)
- `## Displacement Plays` (switch trigger per Hot account)
- `## Citations`

## Quality Checklist
- Switch signals cite `company_intent`/`company_install_time_series`
- Hot tier requires both incumbent decline and rising alternative intent
- Stable-incumbent accounts are not pushed as displacement targets
- Play notes cite the specific switch trigger
